Hi teacher,
I can't understand the sentence "So what kind of people would you get coming to ballroom dancing, then?" It's specially difficult for me to understand "get coming" so, could you write down another sentence with the same meaning, please?
Thank you very much

Hi Sonia,

'Get' is a very flexible word in English and is used in many different ways. In this example the meaning of 'get coming' is 'typically come':

What kind of people would typically come to...?

'Get' here replaces a word like 'have' ('would you typically have coming to'), expect ('would you typically expect coming to') or find ('would you typically have coming to'). Note that the question is asked of a person who is involved in the ballroom, and who receives the visitors, so the core meaning is still related to 'receive'.

Another example would be:

How many guests would you get at a typical meeting?

You would ask the organiser or a participant in the meeting this question.

I hope that clarifies it for you.

Hello Teachers :)
When Ashlie talks to Shemaine she she asks her : So what kind of people WOULD you get ... Please , tell me why Ashlie doesn't use DO but WOULD ?
Thanks .
Best regards ,

Hello iliya_b,

Both verbs are possible here. If you say ' you get...' then you are asking about the people who actually go there. If you say '...would you get...' then you are asking in a more general sense, about what would be typical. In this context they can be used interchangeably.

Hello :) Thanks to B B C for the funny and very useful videos . I find them both helpful and mind-provoking .
Dear Teachers , in episode Blackpool Scene 2 / Comprehension task 2 / Question 1/6 as a correct answer option 'C' is marked .
But having in mind the lenght of childhood / up to 15-18 / , the location of Blackpool / not very close to London / and the common practice , I think that it is hardly likely the siblings have visited Blackpool EVERY year .
Much more likely , to my opinion is that they have done it MORE THAN FIVE TIMES / e.g. frequently / which corresponds to the option 'B' in Question 1/6 . Am I right or no ?
