Hi, Dear The Learn English Team:
Would you give me a description of pub and club, to let me know the difference between them. I just know they are places for relaxation.
Thanks a lot .

Hi Jeany,

The pub is really a typically British (UK) institution, I think.  It's actually short for 'public house' and this gives a clue as to what makes it different from a bar.  A traditional pub has the atmosphere of a house in many ways: it has carpets on the floor, wallpaper on the walls, curtains on the windows, a kitchen which serves meals and snacks and an owner who, traditionally, lives in the same buidling, usually upstairs.  Bars, on the other hand, are more like cafes with alcohol, with typically modern decor and furnishings which do not resemble a house, with music and often without food.  However, the differences are becoming smaller as more and more pubs have been bought by large chains or by  breweries and have managers instead of owners and music and a club-type atmosphere rather than a traditional pub atmosphere.

For more information on this you might take a look at a campaign group called 'CAMRA' ( - they campaign to protect traditional aspects of British pub culture, including pubs, beer and so on.

I hope that answers your question.

Best wishes,

The LearnEnglish Team

actually i want to know about present simple tenses.i heard that someone was saying "it never ends" is it correct to say "end(s)"?

Hello bimsara,

Yes, that's quite correct.  The 's' is necessary because the subject is 'it' - a third-person pronoun, so a third-person form is needed.

I really liked the bit of Auld Lang Syne.
It's a nice song.
Great dialogue, very useful!

Very interesting for low intermediatre. I'm interested in having this as a PDF file to bring it in my class where there is no internet connection. Thanks.

Hello Mamadou,
The PDF file is below the exercises, but above the comments. I hope you find it useful.

Sorry to hear that! Do you mean you don't understand the questions or you don't understand how to use the exercise?
