Do you live in a country which has a king or queen? Did you have to learn the names of kings and queens in history at school? Are the names for family members more specific in your language than in English? And do tell us about your family!

Language level

Intermediate: B1

In my country there is not a king or queen, but there was many emperors in about past five thousands years, so do you know where I live in? Since we have many emperors in history, we still have to learn their names. Actually each of them had more than one names which are tough to remember as well. In my language, every family member has a specific name, so when it comes to things regarding family members, we usually can tell who is being talking about. But personally I am not good at remember the names for them because we do not often catch up with each other, especially young memebers and old members.
I have only one parents, and I'm the only child of my parents. Speaking of grandparents, in my language, their names are easier to tell than in English. For example, the name of my father's father is 'yeye', and 'nainai' is for my father's mother. Relatively,'waigong' is my mom's father and 'waipo' is her mom.
This is the first time I post a comment here, pleas feel good to point the inappropriateness linguistically.

please could you tell me the meaning of this quotation.thanks

I would like to express my deep appreciation for this important work, I ask, if is there other materials more difficult always of this kind ( duration about 20/30 minutes)?

Hi vito90s,

Thanks for your feedback - it's great to know that our work is appreciated. Under Listen & Watch you can find some other materials that are similar to the Elementary Podcasts. I'd specifically recommend Big City Small World, which also has exercises and transcripts, and there are loads of episodes over three different series.

Best wishes,

Hello everyone;
i'm khadija Tunisia. Tunisia used to be a kingdom before but since our independence we've adapted a new constitution " republic of Tunisia". I can't recognize all the names of kings that ruled our country, that's normal because we were under the Arabic dynasty at first and then the ottoman dynasty and after that the french takeover. I love history i think it's important to know our history and other's history.
About words related to family members; in Arabic and in Tunisian accent we have specific words for every person.

its very complicated family for me (asian). but i will learn for it. :D

Hello everyone, I don´t like royal families,  we people pay thiers spent, every
year the national budget  pay the bills of royal familiy and they amass a big
fortunes. Every year we are more poor and they are more rich.

Regarding names of family members in my country that have many names than in English. However, I think the main idea almost the same.
