What do you do to celebrate your birthday?
- I use to stay in home because I don´t feel very well celebrating my birthday. I become so shy when the subject is "Birthday" because I don´t know how to cope with this.

Do you enjoy eating unusual foods?
Yes I do. I use to visit one restaurants once a month. It´s a way to break the routine. I like Chinese, Italian, Japanese and others kinds of foods.

Do you like to cook?
I love to cook. Every week I use to meet friends and promote special dishes in my home. Recently I learned how to make Sushi. (a kind of Japanese food). It was very interesting because after I obtained instruction from a Japanese friend I accessed  the youtube and watched one video which show how to wrap sushi using a small bamboo matting. At the end I can do it very well and all my friends enjoyed it with some bottles of Sake.

I love Ashlie and Stephen. They are so sweet and cute, good for their mom.

Thank you very much indeed, you guys in British Council. Each week we not only learn lots of new things, but also you bring us laugh. God bless you all.

I dont celebrate my brithday long time ago since I am very busy

Yes, I enjoy eating unsusal foods

I like cookin very much

Dear British Council,

In the sentence: "... and we have got  friends coming to ours tonight for a ..." ours is out of context and should be written "our lot" as in the video.

Am I wrong or is it an inadvertent mistake?

Best wishes,

Oscar

Dear Oscar,

In the video Ashlie says 'ours' and that's actually the correct text. In British English, people say 'ours' to mean 'our home'. They also say 'mine' or 'yours' in the same way e.g. 'Let's go back to yours and play cards with your brothers again.'

I'm not sure about whether this use is popular in other Englishes - I will check.

Best wishes,

Adam

Dear Adam,

Oops! After listening to the video again, I could realize that I was absolutely wrong.

Thanks a lot for your comment. I'm learning from my mistakes. English language has so many hidden clues for me to understand it thoroughly that I'm coming 'to mine' to access this useful site.

Best wishes,

Oscar

Dear Oscar,

Don't worry about making mistakes - that's part of learning a language.

I've done some investigation since my last answer and it appears that 'ours', 'yours', 'mine' are almost never used in American English in this way. I don't know about other forms of English.

Best wishes,

Adam
