Hello,
I think it's better always to tell the truth, especially with people who is colse to me, because telling the truth will build a strong and good relationship between us, but sometimes it is not bad to tell a small lie to protect one's feelings from bring hurt though.

Heello learn English team,
I have two questions about some of the language, i have heard, i don't understand the expression 'by any chance' i did not find it in the dictionry, and i dont know when to use it.
Another qoute from you Tom is 'so far, so good' when to use it too.
Thank you
My regards
Sherine

Hello Sherine hussein,

You can find it in the dictionary on this page - just scroll down the page. As you'll see from the definition and examples, it is used to make a request more polite. It has a similar meaning to 'Is there any possibility that...'

You can find the second phrase in the dictionary too, on this page.

Best wishes,

Peter

I think the best way it's telling the truth. As often as possible. Of course if you don't want to hurt the feelings of your relatives and friends you shouldn't tell the truth. Do you remember what a woman in section "your turn" said about friend's hair?. That is what I'm talking about. Whatever, if you tell the truth all the time you shouldn't remember when and how exactly you have lied. You can feel yourself calm without anxiety that the truth will be open and you don't need to worry that you can make a bad break. After a while, if you tell the truth all the time people will know it and they might want you to tell them the truth. People will ask you for adviсe or just will come to you for your opinion (what do you think about their dresses, for example), because you tell the truth.

we always have to say the truth. Who listens to me has the right, not to be deceived for being a person who matters to me. Truth must be said with lovely and honesty an inner attitude of respect and participation of whoever has the power of the word.

I think telling the truth is almost always better than the lie but for instance in my job that we confront with ill patients we are forced to lie as "white lie" occasionally. That means our sentences are not completely truth and are not completely lie.it depends to patient's condition. Finally I accept this Arpan's sentences that said "if we start telling the lie we have to tell another lie that cover lies"

In my opinion, it is better to tell the truth but sometimes we can tell a lie. It depends on situation. For example, when a patient suffers from a serious disease, I think that the doctor should say that they are ok but then he should tell his family about his situation so they can find some solutions to help him during the treatment. Meanwhile, the patient is optimistic so he can pass out the disease easily. The most important thing is to tell the truth most of the time to make people trust us. It is hard to make them trust us but easy to make them mistrust us.

Hello Everyone,
Is it better to tell the true or sometimes, maybe for a good reason, we can lie ?
I am a salesman and for the common thought, all the salesmen are liars.
Obviously It isn't true, because there are a lot of sellers who work honestly.
To lie, in the most part of cases, could be dangerous in my job.
You make unreliable yourself to the customer's eyes, therefore it is always better tell the true.
Here in Italy -the capital of the liars- all kind of Italian people tell lies easily, from politician to priest, from rich to poor. It's a kind of art for us. We are famous all over the world for that.
We have different kind of lie. The most common is called "bugia bianca". It's the lie that you can say to your mother when she has found one pack of cigarettes hidden on the top of wardrobe - IT ISN'T MINE I HAVE HIDDEN IT FOR MY FRIEND !!!-

I hope that you can understand the meaning of the sentences that I wrote, despite of my terrible English .
Thank you for all.
