how to learn english

Hi hooria ali,

These Elementary Podcasts are a good place to start because there are transcripts and exercises to help you improve your listening comprehension, and you can use the audio as a model that you can imitate to learn new expressions and improve your pronunciation. If you find Series 2 difficult, I would suggest Series 3.

Whatever you do, it's best to try to have contact with English every day, even if it's only for a short time. Little by little, you should see that you improve!

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Best wishes,

Kirk

I'd like to go to the future about 2000 years, because I want to see the development in the science of planets, if there is any new thing about the life on theses planets , and if scientists succeed in connecting with the creatures there.
I want also live in the modern life that would be on our planet the earth,I think there will be many discoveries and inventions in different fields of life such as science, marine life, plants, animal life, technology and astrology.

Hi Kirk,
Thank you very much for your advice.
Your website is absolutely fantastic!
Verunka

Hi Kirk,
Thank you very much for your answer!
As I said I enjoy listening of Podcasts so much that I play one after another always wondering what is going to be next topic or what is going to happen to Carolina...and actually I did not notice that there is a possibility to read every Podcast. Thank you for the explanation!
The problem was, I had not hear "does" in that question "What does the steak come with?" so the sentence did not make a sense to me grammatically.
Then, there are many expressions in English, which are very different from expressions in my language so even I understand from context, I was wondering how to use "come" when it does not mean "go".
It is not at your Podcasts and am not sure, if you can explain that here, but when I was traveling I noticed that this expression is used at stores very often. For example: This product comes in five colors. Are there any other situations where I can use "come" (and the meaning  is not "go") besides these two situations?
Thank you very much! I enjoy learning English with your website very much!
Verunka

Hi Verunka,
You're very welcome, that's what we're here for. I'm sorry I hadn't completely understood your question, and thanks for clarifying it for me.
The verb come has so many different meanings that it's not possible for me to explain them all here. What I would recommend is that you look up come in the Cambridge Dictionaries Online search box (in the right-hand column of this page). You'll see that there are dozens of entries for it! Over time you can read the entries, and most importantly, the example sentences. As you read other things in English, keep an eye out for expressions with come, and I'll think you'll see that you will gradually understand it better.
And if you don't understand an expression you see, then of course please ask us again!
And thanks again for all your feedback - it's really great to hear it. We hope you tell your friends and family about LearnEnglish!
Best wishes,

Hello, I enjoy listening of Elementary Podcasts very much! Thank you!
May I ask you? Did I hear well? "What is this steak come with? Would you please give us more examples or explain more about how to use verb "come" in similar situations? I think I also heard: ...it comes in five colors. I also don´t understand grammar and word order in this sentence.
Thank you.

Hi Verunka,
Thanks for your feedback - it's always great to hear that our members enjoy using our materials!
I will answer your questions here, but just so you know, if you click on Instructions & downloads, you can view (and search for words in) the transcripts of the podcasts. That could be really useful for you.
Yes, Carolina asks, "What does the steak come with?" In the context of ordering food in restaurants, come with refers to what other food(s) are served with the main food. For example, it's quite common for steak to come with chips, or a salad, or both. Carolina wants to know what else will be on the plate with the steak when it arrives. You could use come with with any kind of food in this context.
I'm afraid I couldn't find anything about "five colours" in the transcript. There was something about "five pieces of memory" and "five years", but nothing about colours. If I have missed something, please let me know and I'll take a look again!
I hope this helps you.
Best wishes,

Hello Ravi, If you are going to Barcelona, I think you would better learn spanish
because to learn a lenguage is to have an instrument to comunicate with a lot
of people, unfortunately catalano speakers are a few, only; on the contrary
spanish speakers are three hundred thousands of millions people and the  spanish literature is wide and marvelous.
Í disagree with Ahappy learner.

Hello 2 everybody!
I have been listening most of postcard they are here and also the grammar too... I feel so happy to join this wonderful site and I also want 2 give a BIG THANKS to all the teachers of this (again) wonderful site ... As soon I'll finish- refreshing my knowledge of English lessons I'll go to give an exam and taking the English Certificate ... The problem with me is that I can understand quite the language and make some mistake as everyone BUT when it's time to write I get confused and  and I don't where to started .... Anyway perhaps I DO need more practice by speaking ,reading and listening too ... I thank you very -very much for Your help ...I want to tell something to or I have a doubt in this postcard with title   " If you have a time machine " ..It is one person that gave one answer that She wanted to travel to the future ( I heard that and i think it's correct 14:04 )... But in some older postcard I did chose one or two as the right answers as I thought could be , AND only for the people which has been interviewed and it was mistake , Putting Ravi's or Tess answers were the right one with one more for example 4+1  . In this example was different  I choose two ( the interviewed and Ravi's answer too) .And I was  wrong ...I think I am confused a bit ...
Take care AND best regards
Sonia from Albania
