My New Year's resolutions

by Darren

I like to start every year with my New Year's resolutions. Then I read them next 1 January and see how well I did!

Here are my resolutions this year.

1. Get fit!!

I say this every year but I hope writing it in public will make it more real. I'm aiming for three runs a week – I think I can do it! I think a fitness tracking app might help me achieve it. Or I could find a running partner. If anyone who's reading this wants to be my partner, let me know!

2. Save 10 per cent of my salary a month

Having no savings is starting to worry me and 10 per cent is realistic. It's not too much, but it's not too little that I won't see it add up. I'll put the money into a special bank account that will make it grow … Actually, I don't know much about that so maybe my next resolution should be to find out how to invest money!!

3. Cook more

I'd like to start inviting friends for dinner and cooking for them. I think once a month is a good plan. By the end of the year I want to have five dishes I can cook really well so people will say, 'Have you ever had Darren's delicious cooking?' Who wants to be my first guest?

  1. Before you start a writing task, make a plan. First, write down lots of ideas you could include. Then choose the best and most interesting ones.
  2. Don't write all your ideas in one section. Make one section for each idea. Write a heading for each section to show the reader what it's about.
  3. Think about who is going to read the text and choose the style accordingly. For your classmates, use an informal and clear style.
  4. Keep your reader interested by talking directly to them, e.g. by asking a question.
  5. When you have finished your writing, read it and check it for mistakes.

Language level

Intermediate: B1

Yes, I do. Actually, my first New Year's resolutions were done last year.
And the ones that I have for the end of this year are:
1) Get an advanced English level:
I have been studying English since June of 2020, and I knew nothing about English, so I started studying English on my own by listening YouTube channels, practicing English grammar exercises, reading books in English, practicing English phonetic, etc. This year I'm in the middle of the intermediate level I could say (I took a classification exam in an English academy in my country) and I want to improve it.
2) Get a full scholarship to study abroad:
I'm in my early 19s, and since August of 2020 I've been looking for a full scholarship to study abroad; it's for that reason I'm studying English every day because I need to take the IELTS exam and get a 7 score to get an scholarship abroad
3) Get a job in summer of 2022:
I'm studying international business management at university and with one year of studies I can get a job, so I want to get it because I need to pay an IELTS preparation course for my scholarship
4) Get a full scholarship in my current university:
As I said before, I want to get a scholarship abroad, but nowadays I'm studying in my university with a half of a full scholarship, and I want to get a full one because I want to help my parents more. Even though they are happy because they pay a cheaper price for my education; I think that's not enough.
5) Find out a way to translate my university classes, which are in Spanish, into English:
Alright, I know this sounds weird, but I already found out a way to translate all the text from my university into English. Who says I cannot translate the professor's voice into English?

I often make new resolutions but they are not necessarily for the end of the year.

At the end of every year, we need to committed what would we do in the next new year day! What’s our specific aim to complete?

I never thought that it was my new year resolution but it’s always remind me as my daily habits instead.

1. Stay fit: As I want to stay fit and healthy I take 4days in a week to workout and eat less salty and sweet also oily food.

2. Do Meditation: Stay on focus is very essential to me so I need to spend 15min a day to treat myself silently and relax. Modify about what I have done for a day .

3. Read More: Reading will lead to a better thinking and increasing an idea.

4: Improve English Skill: As everyone known it is a worldwide pandemic so it’s better to give yourself new challenging like learning new skill and practice it .

As physically i am very slim i want give more important for muscle building a little. I have been trying to gain muscle for long time but i am not able succeed yet. If you have any suggestion for me please let me know.

My new year's resolution,

I do not really like new year's resolutions. I prefer form a habit. However, writing down can be better than keeping in mind.
Here are my resolutions this year.

1. Improve health
I mean physical and mental health. I will do more exercises such as badminton, swimming and I will start to run. About mental health, I will track my period closely and observe my mind, meditate, rest, enjoy the nature and feed my mind with the "healthy food".

2. Practice English writing
That is the reason I learn here. I want to improve my level from Intermediate to Advance.

I want to do more but I believe less is more. In summary, I want to invest in myself as much as possible. LOVE YOURSELF!

Yes , but I never keep them. My next year's resolutions will be;
1- To join the gym for my fitness.
2- To save some money for the future.
3- To buy a new car.
4- To do further studies.
5- To perform the pilgrimage to Makkah.

I have never written New Year’s Resolutions, as most of the time my plans might change abruptly!!! However I hope writing it in public will make it more real)))

1. CPD
Since lockdown I have met so many amazing people who influenced me to rethink my own life. Then I realized how self-development is crucial. So, I am gonna hit the book again and do my master degree!

2. Study new languages
Apart from English which I am aiming to ace to C2, I will continue my second passionable language - German!

3. Learn new stuff
Lately I have noticed that I hate being stuck in a rut, which brings only boredom and loneliness, so I need to socialize and learn something new. I want to start with new activities, such as yoga and cooking!

I'd like to write my new year's resolutions after this lesson. I have learnt it how to write it. ;)

I have never made a New year Resolution. I will write one for the classes.

Being more Active during cool weather
I use to stay at home for days and days, especially during winter or when the days are cool. I need to be part of one club or group that like to practice one sport or outdoor activity.

Improve my English
I have spoken during years the English language but no in the right way. Even during my jobs I have had some kind of disadvantages. It seem to be the moment to improve it.

At the end of every year we are required to make a summary about the past year and a new year's resolution. I would like to think about my own's next year resolution here.
1. Always keep fit
As age pass by I hope to keep a proper body shape even when I was fifty or sixty years old. I am aiming to exercise at least three times a week, especially Yoga exercise to ease my pressure from work or family.
2. Try my best to find a new job
I have been working at my current company for about ten years now and I have not received a salary raise for three years. I think I should go out to have some new views about myself from other company. I cannot stand counting days to waste my time from now on. Well, actually I don't well know my current level for a new position, but why do not try, I believe I could achieve myself through an equitable platform.
3. Be an elegant beauty
One day of this year I suddenly realized I shouldn't be an out of fashion lady anymore as I'm already thirty years old. And I found that I knew little about makeup skill after jointing a makeup class. Hoping in the near future I could be an elegant beauty in the public through my daily practicing.
