2. What's your favourite scary film?

What's your favourite scary film?

We asked some of our friends and colleagues to tell us about their favourite scary films. This is what they said.

I love the escapism of a good scary film. When something makes you jump out of your seat or makes you grab a cushion to put in front of your face! Especially those sorts of films where you know something horrific is going to happen, that it's going to make you jump even though you anticipate it … it still scares the living daylights out of you! One classic creepy film is The Silence of the Lambs, oh, and I loved the 28 Days Later film series (I'm a bit of a zombie film fan too). Quiet Place I, II and III make your heart race! Get Out! had me gripping the end of my seat. The Ring, now that was one that stayed on my mind for ages. I could keep going … ツ
Tina

I don't like scary films at all. Anything slightly creepy, let alone an actual horror film, gives me nightmares. I watched some horror films when I was younger, but now I avoid them at all costs as they terrify me!
Joanne

I don't like slashers or very gory horror films, but I do appreciate a few classics like The Shining and The Silence of the Lambs. What I enjoy more are creepy and suspenseful films or series like Stranger Things or True Detective – the first season of both of those series are among my favourites.
Kirk

I love scary films, especially when they have a mysterious or psychological element to them, like Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me or 10 Cloverfield Lane. Recently, I really enjoyed the series Sharp Objects, a modern Gothic murder mystery with lots of twists – sooo good!!
Jo

My favourite scary film recently is The Well, an Italian horror film. It is about a young woman who goes to a small village in Italy to restore an old painting. I like it because it has dark atmosphere and some really frightening moments. I also enjoyed seeing an Italian setting in a horror film.
Alberto

I don't really watch scary films, but I do enjoy watching series that are scary! I love series like The Last of Us, where nothing frightening happens for ages and then suddenly, something happens that makes you want to hide behind the sofa. I've just started watching Widow’s Bay, which is a horror comedy, so you have this constant feeling that something bad is about to happen while you're still laughing at something funny.

I am not a big fan of horror movies. But somes gives me interest, especially when have plot, like hereditary for example. The last that I watched it was The Mummy. I watched with my husband's family in a movie theater. It was really scared for me, because I usually don't watch these kinds of movies in movies theaters. It was really fun e scary. I always watch horror movies with my hand covering my eyes, so I don't get scared.

Personally,I used to love scary movies a while ago, movies like THe conjuring or silence of the lambs or maybe even the coundown, but lately there are no great horror movies,it feels like everyone has the same formula but changes about 2-3 ingredients, what I've been into lately are series about crimes like true detective, the mindhunter, hannibal

they somehow keep you really engaged, they are perfectly long to give you time to start trying to guess what's gonna happen and sometimes maybe you get it right,it s so much fun

What's your favourite series, movie or book?

My favourite series has to be true detective, not only did I finish it quickly, but I also rewatched it a couple of times and sometimes I still check some scenes from time to time

why do I like it? it's a show that initially pulls you in with the crime that happened, but slowly you start getting interested in the main characters,Rust and Martin, they are two beautiful flawed characters

it also has a ton of action,a hint of horror and the cherry on top, character development and a sign of occult.

I like watching scary films at the theater because I can really feel suspense from dark atmosphere and loud sounds.

But I don't like watching scary films alone at home because I tend to have nightmares afterward. So I prefer watching them at the theater with other people.

I usually don't like scary movies, especially when there is a lot of blood. One exception, Braindead, it's a film about zombies with typical zombies scenes, but it is also very funny. There is one scene I remember, when the family is gathered for a dinner. They are a normal family, but the mother has become recently a zombie after an animal bited her. The son have put a lot of make up on the face of his mother, because his girlfriend is coming for dinner and he doesn't want her to notice that the mother is a zombie.

And in the middle of the dinner, the ear of the mother breaks and fall in her plate, it is hilarious!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for the recommendation of 'Braindead'. I just love Zombie films and I've not heard of this one. I also love the sound of it making you smile too! I'll definitely have to try and find somewhere I can watch it. What sort of films do you normally like to watch?

I am happy to know it!

I like the classic films and comedies, and I watch crime series too. Sometimes I need a feel-good movie and I enjoy it.

I love watching scary films like your anakulova, all types, and especially ones that make me jump out of my skin! My family don't like going to the cinema or sitting next to me as I tend to scream out loud when something makes me jump! Have you seen the new 'Smile2' film? I'm hoping to see it at the weekend! Happy Halloween if you are celebrating today. ~ Tinaツ. (LearnEnglish team)

Do you like scary films?

Well, I am not a fan of thriller movies. But when I was young, I watch with my family and that's really good experience.

What's your favourite scary film?

It might be "Happy Death Day." I love that storyline and plot twist. That movie is really interesting and exciting.

Hi, well, I don´t like scarry movies. I used to watch some when I was young, but now, I prefer different kind of movies.

I have a funny and scary story. A long time ago, when I was in my twenties, I was watching The Ring alone at home. At the exact moment the phone rings in the movie, my phone rings too. I get scared and scream a lot, but it was my husband who wants to call me

Hi NadiaPietro,

That must have been terrifying - it sounds as if it made you jump out of your skin!!!

Best wishes,

I don't enjoy watching movies, sometimes, when someone invites me to watch any movie I accept because of the company, that's why I don't have a title in my mind.

Haha... I am a big fan of horror movies. The more scary they are, the more I enjoy watching them. I also turn off the lights in order to feel the real fear though I might have a nightmare then. Here is a list of movies and series which were so memorable for me; The Exorcist, Walking Dead, Wrong Turn, Insidious, The Nun, Anabelle and ... . In Iranian ones I only enjoyed a movie called "Khabgah-E-Dokhtaran" that means "Dormitory of the girls".

So, now I don’t like to watch scary movies because I really afraid of some different situations, but earlier when I was an adolescent, I really loved them and I watched all the movies which I could find. Nevertheless, I have a list of the few of my favourite films: The Ring and Quiet Place.
