5. Reflection – small talk

Thank you for this learning opportunity.

I really liked this topic because small talk is useful in our everyday lives. I learned how to start and maintain a conversation, especially with people I don’t know well. I also learned some new vocabulary and phrases related to social conversations. Through this topic, I practised my speaking, listening, and communication skills. The most challenging step was thinking of suitable topics and questions quickly. However, I found practising conversations the most interesting and enjoyable because it helped me feel more confident when speaking English.

Thank you for this opportunity. It gives me a chance to learn more about how to talk with others and improve my communication skills.

I guess small talk is great and also it’s a skill because not everyone can start a small talk and choose the right topic with someone that you just met. 

This was my first course with you guys and I really liked it ! I always love a good way to practise my English but find it difficult seeing as my entourage doesn’t really know it, and honestly I don’t really want to get out of my comfort zone, but today I did ! I even did a little recording and posted it with my comment, and I’m really looking forward to speak more !

I like this topic, because small talk is common in life, which can make connect between strangers. I also have learned some new vocabulary and phrases. besides, I have learned that we should be confident when we are making small talk.

I like this topic because small talks are everywhere in our life. Small talks can create connection between people. I learned some phrases. I think that learning how can we talk on other languages is important because communication brings opportunities. Practicing daily talks in every situation can be help. Thank you for this topic.

Small talks are a great way to open up with unknown people. Joining this discussion, I have learnt about the various ways to introduce ourselves with other people through talking about a light topic and kick start building relations with them over time. A great time being with British Council!

Thanks to British Council for the opportunity to participate in the event! That was fun! 

The most interesting thing was to hear from people all over the world. I hadn't expected that weather is the common topic at different countries. Actually we all have pretty much in common nevertheless the culture, country or age. To learn that was heartwarming. 

The most challenging part was to speak through the microphone and to record my voice. I felt like I was saying something wrong or inappropriate. That's great that I had the opportunity to listen to other people speaking, that gave me confidence in myself. 

I'm happy that I could overcome self-doubts and participate in the event. Looking forward to the Learning hub next month!

Hello! I really appreciated the topic because it's hard to start a small talk even in my native language, so I enjoyed learning more about how it works in English. 

The most challenging part of making audio was because I felt that I was always committing mistakes, but I just recorded and posted it for my practice.

Thank you for the oportunity to learn and get some nice small talk tips for connecting with others. I really like this topic because I consider myself shy and sometimes distant from others when comes to make new friends or just connecting. 

I learned new phrases to break the ice and start a small talk and in this occasion I practiced my listening skill. 

The most challenging step was the recording of my opinion about the suject, but is something that I'll be sharpening little by little.

To me all the steps where completely interesting, I don't come frecuently to the Learning Hub, but I'll do most regular.

Well, I have learn new English vocabulary and phrases with this topic, it is very useful for me, because now I have some ideas to put into practice in my day to day life.

I really like the tips for small talk, because I´m a shy person that avoid conversation with people I don´t know. From now on I will ask myself what I may have in common with the person in front on me, to have a small takl.

The step more challenging for me is the speaking record, because I think it is the skill that I need to work more.

I have practiced listening reading and speaking

The most challenging step was the second because all the native teachers were speaking very fast. I am Italian, but in the first step I found difficult understanding Elena, who was Italian, instead very easy listening all other English native speakers.

The first step was the most interesting and enjoyable.

I like this topic. It's helpful because small talk is not part of my country's culture. It's safe to talk about the weather and the weekend.

This topic has been really interesting. Sometimes, when we meet with people who we don't know, it is very complicated to start a conversation, so these ideas about it, are very helpful.

It's been very useful practising about this topic, challenging sometimes to give an opinion but that' s made me improve a little bit.

Oh, how interesting it is! I really love it. Making small talk in English increases confidence in sharing ideas about the topic of the talk. This, in turn, unlocks the practice of language skills. In my country (Ethiopia), people introduce each other beginning from the wellness of life. It begins with "How is life?". It is too general, but it is implied that the people have a great respect for one another. Then, they proceed to the main agenda of their discussion.  

It's good to hear about the new topic "small talk". It creates ideas.     

Im very interesting with this topic, it helps me to understand the culture of different country and how to make to start the conversation
