Planning an event

Planning an event

Read a dialogue where three people negotiate who does what to achieve a task.

Do the preparation task first. Then read the text and do the exercises.

All right, so I've divided up the tasks among the three of us planning this event like this:

@Jen: make guest list, schedule social media announcements, arrange room set-up, organise musicians
@Ed: book catering, send out invitations, design posters, book speakers
@Mike: reserve rooms, design invitations, write and publish blog post, get emcee

But please don't feel like we need to stick to this. If you prefer to do something else, feel free to say so.

Mike, 14:41

Yeah, I was thinking, as you are project leader @Mike, maybe it's best you make the guest list? I've got experience in graphic design so I'm happy to design the invitations.

Jen, 14:50

@Jen, do you mind designing the posters too? I'm not very good at designing.

Ed, 14:55

Sure, it'll be fun. If I take the poster design off you @Ed, do you think you can organise the musicians?

Jen, 14:56

Absolutely, I know some really good musicians that do events like this one. And I also know a really good emcee. Do you want me to take over getting the emcee too?

Ed, 14:58

@Ed I actually already have an emcee in mind, so I think I'll handle that. I'd appreciate it if you could write and publish the blog post about the event though.

Mike, 15:01

That's not a problem. I quite enjoy online marketing tasks.

Ed, 15:01

If that's the case @Ed, do you want to schedule the social media announcements too?

Jen, 15:03

I can do that ... if someone books the speakers.

Ed, 15:04

I'll book the speakers. And since I'm making the guest list, I should send out the invitations too. @Jen, are you still OK with arranging the room set-up?

Mike, 15:08

Yes, let me do the room reservations as well.

Jen, 15:09

Good idea. That would work nicely.

Mike, 15:10

.There are four peope in our project team, and we usually divide the work between us dependingn on the tasks we have. Before we start, we discuss the tasks and agree on who will be responsible for each one, just like we did in this lesson.

We alway consider who is the best suited to complete each task from beginning to end.

In my job tasks are usually divided by main boss. People are assigned by they specialities e.g. someone who finish a technical studies of electrician usually do a electrician jobs, but not always. Sometimes all of us need to do another job like than his speciality. I do all kind of the jobs because it's my pretty new job so i need to learn all of it. But for be honest i really like it because i can learn a lot of new specialites, so in future i can become a great technician.

Working within a team group is considering of of the crucial skills that a person should have in business. A solo project leader may face many issues to solve. So the work needs people who share the ideas and opinions among them to succeed the business. Even though if they are from international culture that will be more effective in exchanging the ideas. Any business even if it is small needs a number of people to contribute together relying on their qualifications.

How are tasks usually divided in your project teams?

In my project teams the tasks are usually divided by skills and knowledge of the members. Sometimes, they change tasks each other under my autorization. Sometimes changes happen because they feel more comfortable developing a specific task.

Why the answer in task2 question 5&6 is false Ed really wants to do emcee and Mark. also !

Hello Myonda,

Both Ed and Mark say they know someone who can be MC:

Ed: And I also know a really good emcee

Mike: I actually already have an emcee in mind

Neither of them say they want to be the emcee.

I believe it is important for the distribution of shares to be based on skills, as in this situation.

In my view of points, If we want to finish all missions well, we will have to divide up missions for all members in our group. Beacause it helps us work more efficiently and save a lot of time instead of putting all responsibilities on a person.

And dividing up the missions need depending on everyone's strengths and abilitie so that all memember can finish their missions more efficiently and confidently than their weaknesses and disabilities.

Thank you everyone for reading my post and wish all you have a nice day and a happy life.
