It is estimated that about 40 per cent of the world’s population use social media, and many of these billions of social media users look up to influencers to help them decide what to buy and what trends to follow.

So what is an influencer and how do we become one?

An influencer is a person who can influence the decisions of their followers because of their relationship with their audience and their knowledge and expertise in a particular area, e.g. fashion, travel or technology.

Influencers often have a large following of people who pay close attention to their views. They have the power to persuade people to buy things, and influencers are now seen by many companies as a direct way to customers’ hearts. Brands are now asking powerful influencers to market their products. With some influencers charging up to $25,000 for one social media post, it is no surprise that more and more people are keen to become influencers too. If you are one of them, then here are five tips on how to do it.

1. Choose your niche

What is the area that you know most about? What do you feel most excited talking about? Find the specific area that you’re most interested in and develop it.

2. Choose your medium and write an interesting bio

Most influencers these days are bloggers and micro-bloggers. Decide which medium – such as your own online blog, Instagram or Snapchat – is the best way to connect with your followers and chat about your niche area. When you have done that, write an attention-grabbing bio that describes you and your speciality area in an interesting and unique way. Make sure that people who read your bio will want to follow you.

3. Post regularly and consistently

Many influencers post daily on their social media accounts. The more you post, the more likely people will follow you. Also, ensure that your posts are consistent and possibly follow a theme.

4. Tell an interesting story

Whether it is a photo or a comment that you are posting, use it to tell a story that will catch the attention of your followers and help them connect with you.

5. Make sure people can easily find your content

Publicise your posts on a variety of social media, use hashtags and catchy titles and make sure that they can be easily found. There is no point writing the most exciting blogposts or posting the most attractive photographs if no one is going to see them.

Most importantly, if you want to become a social media influencer, you need to have patience. Keep posting and your following will gradually increase. Good luck!

Question one:

As an explored person by using social media platforms, I know a lot of influences who are really trusted. Personally, following them brings gaining information related with my interests such as perfumes. One of them is named 'Nichecorner' specialized in marketing for perfumes.

Question two:

Actually, I am thinking of that I would like to become a social media influencer. That could be happened especially in education area which I am most niche in. For example, online courses to teach English language or even one-to-one classes for improving writing skill are so useful for students in all levels.

Do you know of any social media influencers? What are their niche areas?

This question has two meanings. If it asks whether I know any influencers personally, then the answer is no. Maybe I have met one or two by chance, but I don't know any of them personally.

If it means whether I follow them, then yes, I follow some influencers, especially those who are experts in travel and new technology. However, I don't really trust them because they might promote something only because they are paid to do so, not because it is actually good. Sometimes I feel tricked by them, and as a result, I lose trust in their recommendations.

If you became a social media influencer, what medium would you use and what would you post about?

To be honest, I have never thought about becoming a social media influencer. I don't think I have a specific niche, and nowadays everyone seems to want to become an influencer!

However, if I did become one, I would probably create travel content. I would make videos about how to travel alone, the challenges you might face, and the best ways to explore both new places and yourself. My goal would be to help people rather than make money from it.

I have the impression that nowadays everyone I see on YouTube or everyone who writes articles for blogs or websites is called an influencer. So yes, I know a lot of influencers.

I like listening to podcasts, so I have three or four favorites. I also sometimes read articles, so there are one or two websites that I like to visit regularly.

I don’t have one favorite niche. I enjoy topics related to new technologies and gadgets. I am also interested in global news in general and in conversations where people talk about life, religion, relationships, and all kinds of different topics.

I think that if I ever published my own content, it would probably be videos on YouTube, because I have the impression that nowadays nobody reads anymore.

Yes, I know Amanda Diaz. She is a social media influencer whose niche areas are beauty, fashion, and lifestyle. She creates content about makeup tutorials, skincare, and personal style, but she also uses her platform for important social topics. For example, Amanda Diaz was even invited to the White House to celebrate and uplift Latinas. She has spoken about issues such as voting rights, immigration reform, women’s rights, and mental health, showing that influencers can also have a political and social impact.
If I became a social media influencer like Amanda Diaz, I would probably use Instagram and YouTube. I would post about psychology tips, self-care, and motivational advice to help people improve their everyday lives while also raising awareness about important social issues.
