So cool to read about everyone's home tradition they miss the most! I'm from England but I've been living in the States for five years and the thing I miss the most is Bonfire Night on November 5th.
The best thing about Bonfire Night is the fireworks, oh, and the bonfires! … and the history behind it. Basically, Guy Fawkes and his friends tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament and kill King James I. They nearly did it too – they hired a room under the House of Parliament and filled it with explosives. But someone told the royal palace. The authorities found Guy Fawkes in the room guarding the explosives, and he was sentenced to torture and death.
So it's a tradition that celebrates the fact that the king survived. It also means people don't forget what happens if you plot against your country. There's a kind of poem about it that starts 'Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.' That's why we build a 'guy' – a life-size model of Guy Fawkes – and burn it on the bonfire. Pretty dark and horrible when you think about it!

It's so nice to see all the traditions you guys have.
I'm french, and one of ours is the "Fête de la Musique", which means "Festival of Music".
It's on june 21st, around the whole country, for more than 40 years. And, to welcome summer, everyone doing music in the country is invited to play outside. You can go to your city (the parks, the streets...), alone, with friends or with a music band to play for strangers. Even if you're not that good. It's to show how good it is to play an instrument (your voice included).
Since a few years, there have been fewer people playing like this, and more and more professional shows. But it is still so great, because you can go to many street concerts even in small cities.

It's an amazing tradition, however it's kind of unimaginary happened if the the plan worked.
It's amazing to read everyone's tradition. well I'm from indonesia, a country of diversity, we have a lot of traditions as well as the islands and tribes.
Basically there's one tradition which is almost similar in every region. We held a party called 'kenduri' every harvest time. Although i never felt it cause i never found it by my self. But this tradition is documented in a lot of story, article, or artefact.
So cool! I remember this story from a film called V for Vendetta. Anyway, my favourite tradition in my country is drinking tea and coffee with friends.

In my home country, Egypt, there is a tradition in the month of Ramadan in a neighborhood called the Iftar of Matareya.
Actually, it's considered one of the biggest Iftars in the world. Neighbors cook food, set up long tables together, and the streets are full of Ramadan lanterns and long branches of lights with cheerful colors. The ambassadors of Germany and Denmark visited it last year, sharing traditional food and trying to make it with Egyptians in the street. You won't believe how warm and sharing the atmosphere is there!

Well, I love reading about traditions from other countries and seeing the great diversity of our planet. I am from Brazil - specifically Minas Gerais - and we are well known for our hospitality and the way we treat people, whether we know them or not. It is very common for us to invite someone over for a coffee and a good chat - accompanied, of course, by plenty of *pão de queijo* (cheese bread). We make a point of treating people with great kindness, offering them the best of what we have and enjoying pleasant conversation; we even have an expression for this: *dedinho de prosa*. It’s a chat that starts off casually but can stretch on for hours, filled with gossip and stories (which we call *causos*), all accompanied by delicious traditional treats.

yes, I'm Egyptian . and if i wasn't Egyptian i would hope to be Egyptian.
And here in EGYPT there is many traditions . one of this tradition is night is called "el sultan abd el jalil night" it is not famous in all Egypt , but it is very Famous in Luxor governorate .
The tradition of helping people or giving the poor people some of our kindness and donate part of our money to them. As well as giving help to the people whether you know them or not.
What I missed the most is our traditional childhood games that we were used to playing. There were many that were full of fun and enjoyment, and at the same time, they helped develop our physical skills, minds, and personalities. They also kept us safe from danger.
Well If I can tell you about one of my favorite traditions from Nicaragua it would be Mother's Day, which is on 30th of May. I actually think Nicaragua is one of the few countries that doesn't celebrate this tradition on 10th of may, as the rest of the Latin American countries.
This tradition is obviously one of the important because we celebrate the love, dedication and sacrifice that every mother makes for their families. So we prepare a special food, and give them presents surrounded by the whole family.
You have to understand that my country has passed many dictatorships, and today we are currently surviving one. But the thing is we celebrated this tradition on this date because of the birthday of dictator Somoza's mother.
He wanted to encourage the special date that commemorates his mother´s birthday. Even though the actual government was the one to overthrow Somoza, we continue to celebrate this exact date to Nicaraguans mothers. I think it's kind of funny.
