I'd like to talk about my two cats, who are called Misha and Masha, and they're nine years old. And because I work for the British Council and I've worked in lots of different parts of the world, they're quite international cats. So they were born in St Petersburg, Russia, around the dawn of the millennium, in the middle of winter. And St Petersburg winters are very, very cold, so it's kind of minus 30 degrees, and some friends of mine found these two tiny little kittens in the snow and brought them in and then sent an email around the office saying 'Who can look after these two cats?' And my wife and I already had two cats at the time, from Indonesia, and we thought can we ... have we got room ... can we adopt these two new cats? And then when we saw them, they were just so cute that we couldn't say no. So we brought them home and so they lived with us for, like, two years in Russia. And then we moved back to the UK and they had to stay in France for six months, erm, just to check that they didn't have rabies ... erm, before they were allowed into the UK. And then they lived with us in Cambridge and we had a cat flap so they used to wander about it.

When it came to leave the UK, we discovered that they'd in fact had about five or six different homes and had made friends with all kinds of people along the street and used to go and get fed and get stroked and cuddled by all of our neighbours. Then we moved to Mexico and we had a house with a garden so we had to build a special fence that kind of curled in on itself so that the cats would climb up and then feel that they were starting to fall down so they'd climb back down again.

And then we moved to Guangzhou this time last year. So now they are 'flat cats', erm, they've not been squashed, they just live in our flat, live in our apartment and they don't go out. They just go out onto the balcony. But the interesting thing is that their personality has ... seems to have changed in every country they've lived in. So Masha used not to be very friendly towards people. As she's got older, she's now quite a cuddly cat. And they've adapted to living, to being kind of free to roam about and then being in the garden and now they seem to be very happy just being in a flat.

Hello chandana,

English spelling is notoriously difficult, and if you do an internet search for "improve spelling", I expect you'll find some useful websites to practise it. It's also important to keep a list of words that you commonly use and misspell, so that you can study the list and refer to it when you write. If you make, study and refer to such a list, you should see your spelling improve.

There are also free spell checkers on the internet (just do a search for "free online spell check"). You just copy and paste your text into the space and they check the spelling for you. If you pay attention to the errors in each text you write and then record them to study, this will also help you.

I hope you are able to fulfil your dream!

Best wishes,

hi teachers l hope that you are well .l don't understand this sentence" build a special fence that kind of curled in on itself"and olso "get fedded"get stroked" get cuddled"
please help me

Hi samiasamou,

The sentence describes the shape of the fence - curling in on itself means that it is going round as if in a circle, but does not close the circle.  The other phrases are passive forms.  We sometimes use 'get' in place of 'be' in passive verb forms, so these are the equivalent of 'be fed' (the past participle is 'fed', not 'fedded'), 'be stroked' and 'be cuddled'.  If you don't know these verbs then you can use the Cambridge Dictionaries Online window on the right to look them up, and you'll see a definition, some examples and some grammar information.

I hope that clarifies it for you.

Best wishes,

I'd like to tell the story about my cuddly black cat – Matvey. I found him on the street, near the grocery store, when he was a little kitten. At that time he was so ill that if I hadn't rescued him he would probably have died soon. It is often believed that black cats bring you unhappiness, while others say that black cats are great doctors and able to cure any disease. As for me, I didn't experienced their medicine affect, but know for sure that black cats affect our lives absolutely positively!

I would prefer to live in Italy,Greece or any of the Pacific Islands, but I wouldn t mind to live and work in every country of the world.I think people are divided in cats and dogs, because their personalities. If you are like a cat you ll understand much better the behaviour of this animal. It s the same with the dog.I don t want more pets, because I ve got two cats older than Masha and Misha and I missed one more cat last month(she died because she was eighteen years old!)-I ve always wanted to get a parrot, but maybe in the future.
