"Which do you prefer – the book or the film?’
What do you think?"
Normally both are a pleasure, someone prefers reading a book, because they have the pleasure to turn the pages, to have a free sprit to imagine the characters of the history, to imagine painting the scene as you like, and taking the time to appreciate the quality of the writing. The advantage is our mind is the director. It is your own enjoyment.
Whereas watching movies, we can have other pleasures, it is a shared pleasure with our friends. Also you can enjoy the history and the technical quality of the film.
Both are complementary for me.

Good morning, dear English team.
I have a question, where I can find further explanation about letter silent and how to pronounce individual words, and this special symbols.
this with the porpouse I do dictionary of words and sounds from my own language. This will help me to remember how to say them.

Dear TheLearning English team,
I do not understand the joke in this postcard.
Please tell me the mean of the dog hating the book.
Thank you.

Hello vietforward,

The idea is not that it's funny that the dog hated the book – it's funny because we don't expect that a dog can read. If he hated the book, that means he had to read it, which is ridiculous and therefore funny.

I hope that helps you understand the joke, though don't worry if not. Humour is different in different places!

All the best,
The LearnEnglish Team

which do I prefer - the book or the film? so, it effectively depends on the stuff. both, books and films, have their pluses and minuses. but personally I think films can evoke stronger emotions due to combination of images, sounds and acting. and as we know, emotions helps poeple to remember things and it can be used e.g. in documentaries, docudramas etc.

Hello everyone :))
This is my opinion about question : “Which do you prefer – the book or the film?”
It depends. But mainly, i like the film more.
Today, the film is more exciting. It has sounds and images which we can't find in books.
Of course, it took me less time.
But some films don't convey enough contents from book.
I like reading science book and no film don't have.
