Russian TV has a very good presenter of Nature. His name is Nicolay Drozdov. That is fantastic narrator, scientific, eruditу and traveller. His programms take of attention a lot of children and adults. I think her name know people in different countries how we know about english presenter David Attenborough.

I learn start English. help me! How learn start on web

Hello taotau83,

Welcome to LearnEnglish! My first suggestion would be to explore the site.  Use the links at the top of the page to go to different sections and see what kinds of materials are available.  Get a feel for the level of difficulty of different sections so you can see what will be most useful to you at the moment.

Then start with something that is not too high a level. Many users find Elementary Podcasts Series Three a good place to start.  Work through the episodes, and remember that you can use the transcript to help you, or to read and listen to at the same time after you have done the exercises. As you work, it's important to keep a vocabulary notebook. Organise it by topic ('work', 'family', 'food', etc.) and add words and phrases to it as you go through the material.  Test yourself regularly to see if you remember the words.

Finally, practise English every day, even if it's only for 10 minutes. You can study the vocabulary you've recorded, listen to an Elementary Podcasts episode again, or if you have a friend who is also learning English, practise speaking with them. You can also practise by yourself, just speaking English when you are alone at home or at work.  This kind of practice is great for developing fluency in speaking, so that when you need to use English in the 'real' world you are ready and confident.

I hope those suggestions are helpful.

Best wishes,

Hello taotau, my name is Malco, and hello everyone. Welcome to Learn English, I am just a student like yourself, a student from Mexico, quite far from Vietnam, anyway is great that you try to learn english with British Council is one of the best sites I ever known, I have tried for about a month and I love it. Look there are teachers who answer your questions in the chat, you should try to reach them, I am sure they are more qualified, just keep clicking the mouse.

Have a carp in a bath is a very strange custom, but I think every country has something strange for people living in other country.
Anyway, I live in Italy and like italian people I live Christmas in a very important way.
Christmas is a religious festival but nowdays many people live it as a great business festival.
Christmas remembers the Christ's birth, but nowdays the 25th of december is seen only a day to meet relatives, to eat a big lunch and to exchange gifts.
The religious meaning is put in a second layer for most of people.
Anyway it's a good thing meeting relatives and exchange gifts.
Children looks forward Santa Claus who brings them every kind of toys. In fact parents buy toys then keep them hidden until Christmas coming, The Christmas eve, when babies are sleeping deeply, mum and dad put the toys under the christmas tree. Christmas morning children enjoy to unwrap gifts under the Christmas tree.
Another important tradition in Italy is built the Nativity scene for Christmas. About one month before Christmas my daughters and I pull out of the box the Nativity figurines, take some dry moss, some sand and some straw and then buid our Nativity scene (“presepe” in Italian).

Hello, everybody, I'm new on this site. I hope to improve my English by using the materials provided.

Thank you!

Hi nicolam998,

It's sounds nice! You are right, nowadays Christmas is not festival for religious. in the early of December items to decor for Christmas was sold everywhere. You can easy see them at buildings, office, shops, special in Church with many kind of lights, Christmas tree sinking Christmas atmosphere. It's exciting. Besides everyone also sending e-card, greeting card saying Marry Christmas and have lunch or dinner together. Certainly gifts can't leak for children, they also have dreamt to meet Santa Claus, prayer and make a wish. In Vietnam there are no snow, reindeer, heater, chimney so children only meet him by their imagination or parent's story, cartoon...

Le Nhung

Hi Le Nhung, I didn't know children wait Santa Claus in December also in Vietnam. I think I've to say thank you to British Council because with this lessons I can chat with other people all over the world and know things that I cannot imagine. Some lessons before someone talked about Kazakhistan, a country that I used to know only by the name. Listening that lesson I found out that Kazakhistan is a big country with amazing modern buildings in its capital city. Just imagine I thought that Kazakhistan was a little, poor and backward country. Thank you British Council staff to allow me to know new things all over the world.

Hi nicolam998, Yes, we should have a words thank you to The LearnEnglish Team. Thanks they that my listening skill have improved clearer than before. However, about grammar in writing I feel quite a bit confuse. I'm trying hard to partake to writing comment for each episode in order to writing skill, I hope that.
You mentioned about some countries that we just only heard by information channels, that's right In each country has different development, push their strength points up thus, it was known any more. For example: when people says Italy instantly they will think to Leaning Tower of Pisa, Fashion Capital, Denmark is famous for traditional butter cookies and Mermaid statue, or when you mention Brazil you will remember Samba and there are many famous footballer or Malé Island is a tourist paradise. Too many well-known that I can't say to them.

In addition, you know Uzbekistan, Tajikistan that have been heard I'm sure whether Kazakhistan, Uzbekistan, or Tajikistan all of which have special aspects, unique cultures. I supposed
Maybe they want to a quiet life so they didn't keen to tourism development.

Le Nhung

P/s: I also wanna say thank you to Mr. Peter M, His face look so funny, comic with a helmets.

Hello Le Nhung,

Erm... thank you, I think!

There was once a slogan which said: 'If you want to get ahead, get a hat'.  I think the same is true for cycle helmets!

Best wishes,
