I dont see the fun that Ravi talk about!

I live in a small city, there are no big shopping centres where you enjoy shopping. When I visit my daughters, who live in a big city, I enjoy walking, looking and buying anything with them.

Hello again! That was really interesting to listen to “I’d like to talk about” section today as well as “Our person in” in previous episodes. Pity there is no the second one section any more now. In fact, being engaged and interested while learning language makes the whole process much more efficient to be. All new words and idioms run into your mind better so you don’t forget. And of course there is no Gordon telling jokes. In my opinion, that would be better to listen to something being told with different voices so that you can get used to speech of different people.
Einstein’s relativity was interesting to listen to. There was really simple exploration that Liam gave. I’ve heard more funnier version from film, called Deep Blue Sea where a cook explained the relativity to engineer. He said that when there is a hot pan in your hands, a second goes like a year but when there is a hot pretty, a year goes like a second. “That’s the best Physics lecture I’ve had for 5 years of university education ” said the engineer.
As to me, I’ve always been interested by those persons who managed to change the world. I mean people like Thomas Edison a great scientist whose invention made our life a lot easier and reduced necessity to get whale fat by killing poor animals. Bill Gates, a great computer developer was a really gifted and capable student. He is a person whose invention, computers, you know changed the whole world definitely. Indeed, that’s difficult to image an enterprise, school or some person being without it. It led us to have more information that can be found in internet. Great sea explorers of all time like Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan and James Cook changed our idea about geography. The first one was really brave to go exploring west. Till 1492 there was a conception about the sea that was considered to be endless place. There were different hearsays about sea creatures, monsters inhabited. On the whole, that journey seemed to be very dangerous idea. As a result, discovery of American continent made Europe richer cause of loads of gold was found there. Before Ferdinand Magellan nobody knew what was there, over the second ocean, called The pacific one, then. Was there any way to go to this ocean from The Atlantic one? Australia, the fifth continent was discovered by means of James Cook. He had a secret mission to find out where this land was located cause nobody knew exactly. But if some other nation like France or Portugal had found it first, they would have left their own flag there and announced the continent to be their own property. That’s why his mission was secret. Everybody were sure he departed to the West to watch the Sun or Moon eclipse, as far as I know from BBC. Thanks to Cook there people say in English in Australia nowadays. I forgot to notice that in a course of their journeys, these great captains were on the edge of rebellion on the ship cause of the was afraid to go farther to nowhere. They was sure that there is an edge of the ocean and of the whole world somewhere where you can just fall down. Before Magellan nobody knew that the world was a round planet which you can go around and rich your motherland without going back.
About shopping. Whether I like it? It depends on where you do shopping and what exactly you want to purchase. When I go to supermarket buying foodstuff I find it to be boring cause of big queues there or I have to check dates of food out to find out when it was produced to make sure my food is fresh. It is also annoying when you go buying some new cloth and there are sellers who do their best to sell me something. Therefore I tend to take a look on and order something by internet rather than go somewhere. But on the other hand when I’m at duty free or some souvenir shop it’s my pleasure. Looks like I got a bit carried away writing.
I’d like to ask it’s probably late to send records cause of podcasts are finished already.

Hi Sergey,

In each new series, we tried to improve the podcasts by responding to our users' comments on the previous series. As you say, since the recordings are finished, we aren't able to change the podcasts that are on the site now.

Just so you know, we are currently working on a new podcast which we should be able to release next year.

Thanks for your comment.

All the best,

I am not understand how to use say and tell

I’m a biologist and Charles Darwin is my favorite scientist because he’d tried to explain huge variety of species on the Earth by giving us examples. One interesting fact about him is that he never killed insects for his collection, he collected them dead. He thought that he wasn’t entitled to hurt living things. He made his most important discoveries in his forties. He published his the Origin of Species in 1859. The most interesting thing for me about Darwin’s theory is that he proved that the huge variety of species on Earth is the result of evolution. This means that life wasn’t created by God or aliens. Many years ago there had been the first organism which gave birth to another ones. Statement that man came from ape is the most famous in the world. Darwin showed that science is about using abstract thinking and imagination. That’s why I admire him.

Hello teacher,
I have a problem with, this sentence 'before he died'
Please explain that ,which word is the subject as verb and object.

Hello madaivid,

This is probably not a full sentence, so any analysis may be incomplete.

'Died' is the verb here and 'he' is the subject of the verb. There is no object as 'die' is an intransitive verb.

'Before' is a subordinating conjunction.
