If you don’t live at home or you lived away from home in the past, do you (or did you) ever feel homesick? If so, what do you do to make yourself feel better? Even if you’ve never felt homesick, what advice would you give to Carolina to make herself feel better?

Hello,
I had to live away from my home when I went to university. After my family had made me placed to the university dorm and gone bact to home, I felt very miserable and cried during a week. It is one of the most traumatic event in my life and I still have seen nightmare related to university years in the nights at times. I think the biggest reason thad leads to feel like this during my entire university life is to be fond of my family.

All the best.

I think that sometimes is a good thing at feeling homesick, because in that time you really realize and appreciate what home means in your life. I felt homesick when I had to work away from home some years ago. I had to move for a year to another state in my country and when I felt homesick just called mom and after a little talk I always felt better. I think Carolina the best thing she should do is tell her mom how her day was.

I didn't get what syllable is? How can I learn it? Could you please elaborate in detail?

Hello daizykiran,

When we talk about syllables, we're talking about the pronunciation of words. A syllable is a group of sounds centred around a vowel. Sometimes syllables only have a vowel and sometimes there are consonants with the vowel.

There's a detailed explanation of this on this BBC Skillswise page which you might find useful.

I am living with my parents now and when I go to university I will live alone. I think it'll we very awful and lonely like that. No parents, no care, no greetings in the morning. Maybe in the first period, I will be homesick..., so terrible.

Hello again to everybody.
I have never felt homesick even if I lived away from home for a short time or for a long time. I used to go in some vacations in my childhood, but all the time I have felt free to spend the time without parents. Although now when I have grown I miss home more than when I was a child. To make myself to felt better I speak with my marents every week. All the time they gave me a good feeling about the life and about the birds who should to fly from the nest.

Hello everyone,
I lived away from home when I was doing my undergraduate course. I felt homesick although living not so far away from home. Sometimes talking to friends helps us to feel better. If no friends are close to us, it is great to do something we enjoy to distract us from homesickness. Other times, the good thing to do is to phone home to listen to people who we miss. It can change our mood because we're listening to people we love and they always say words that comfort us.
Thanks!

When I was 12 years old I had studied outside for middle school, I would go home once time each week. When I was 16 years old I went to county city for high school, I just went home once time each month. Then 18 I studied in university I lived in another province, each year I just went home 2-3 times. I had a long experience studied outside, and I gradually adopted the homesick feeling as I grew up. As I left home at very young age, I encountered many bad memories when I grew up. Once in high school, I caught a fever with a very high temperature in the whole night, when I clumsily got up from the bed in the morning, I went to the phone station and talked to my parents. When the phone connected I suddenly cried out, I could not control my-self and kept crying for a long time. The people who passed me all were surprised by my emotional crying. My parents felt very upset when they knew my situation, and said a lot of kind words for me. After the phone they asked a friend to take me to a hospital, then they came to my school immediately and stay with me for a long time till I was better. As Adam said it was a too bad feeling when you are homesick, and a very small thing may make you depressed.
