hello everyone!well,I love Shakespeare ever since I was a young girl. When I was 12 years old, my english teacher staged "Romeo and Juliet" in the original language (I'm italian and I live in Italy) and chose me for the part of Juliet; I still remember some of the most famous phrases. Well, later, during the years I've read many other books and poems by Shakespeare, and I love almost all of then, but maybe my favourite is Macbeth, the cursed tragedy, especially when Macbeth saw the birnam forest that moves on. Well, speaking on Macbeth, do you know that the opera based on this tragedy is by Giuseppe Verdi? However, I don't really like so much Italian literature, except for the most big poets and authors from the past, like Dante, Francesco Petrarca (his beloved woman was called Laura, like me!), Boccaccio, Foscolo, Leopardi..well, maybe I like italian literature more than I think! My best wishes to all of you!!!

I love this man so much he is legend and he is a leader of the literature in all over the world in my thoughts I read lots of his books. Antony and Cleopatra very awesome play .there are lots of brilliant writers in our country such as altayeb saleh and abd alazeez baraka sakin

I had read a poem of William Shakespeare in class 9th, I think. It was too long, but it was in my text book so I learn some paragraph of it, but till date I don’t remember any single word of it. I have listened that the grammar of his was very good. May be it is true…but I don’t like his poem…
In my region “Munsi Prem Chandra” is the most famous writer. Some of the stories I had read are Namak ka Daroga, Panch Parmeshwar, Poos ki raat and many more. He shows the friendship between a poor farmer and his faithful dog, the miserable life of farmer and many other thing which was really revolutionary. He also told us that Honesty is much more powerful than Dishonesty through his stories. So I think he is one of the best writer of INDIA.

Well. In Vietnam we only have the chance to read Romeo & Juliet at school. His style of writing is quite different from our one . Most of the people in my country know well about that play but only some people know about Shakespeare. If we want to find out more about Shakespeare and his plays, we go to bookstores or search for him on the internet. I know some of his plays such as King Lear and Hamlet through a Japanese comic called Glass mask. In Vietnam, the best well-knowned writer perhaps is Nguyen Du, he famous for a poet called Kieu's story.

Hello everybody. In Russia (and I suppose in all ex-USSR countries) Shakespeare's plays are studied at school. To be honest, I didn't like them very much at that time, but years later I has become a real Shakespeare's fan. I think "Romeo and Juliet" is the greatest story ever written about love - love that people are looking for and can't find.

Now I'm trying to read Shakespeare in English, and it's really difficult for me, but I hope good to reading skills. And it's very intresting to know which Russian writers are known in Britain?

I am from Spain and if you wnat my opinion I think that Dostoieski is one of the best writers ever and Crime and punishment is one of the best books ever written.
Recently I have been reading some short stories and some plays written by Chejov and I have to say that they are great.

Hello Roman_the_First,

Russian literature has a very high reputation and names such as Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Checkov and Pushkin are very well known. Of course, most people read them in translation!

Best wishes,

Hello British Council Team

This new website is nice but I can not finish the task (the "check answer" and "submit buttons do not appear) using Ubuntu in my computer as I could in the past. I can do that in my android tablet though.
I know that Ubuntu linux is not the most common O.S. nowadays, but I would be great if you could test if this problem happen in all linux computers and, if si, fix it.
Thank you in advance.

Hello David Gonzalez Folgueiras,
