Elementary Podcasts

Elementary Podcasts are suitable for learners with different levels of English. Here are some ways to make them easier (if you have a lower level of English) or more difficult (if you have a higher level of English). You can choose one or two of these suggestions - you don't have to follow all of them!

Making it easier

  • Read all the exercises before you listen to the podcast.
  • Look up the words in the exercises that you don't know in a dictionary.
  • Play the podcast as many times as you need.
  • Play each part of the podcast separately.
  • Read the transcript after you have listened to the podcast.

Making it harder

  • Listen to the podcast before you read the exercises.
  • Only play the podcast once before answering the questions.
  • Play the whole podcast without a break.
  • Don't read the transcript.

Now, listen to the podcast and do the exercises.

Hello, I'm Sunhwa from Korea. I have been living in Singapore for four months. I searched internet to study English by myself. Finally, I have found this site. Thank you very much. It is very helpful to me. Especially the diversity of verb is good for me. It is not boring but very interesting spisode. There are many useful expressions in the middle of episode. I have understood the gramatical structure and future tense in the sentenses even tense is present. I am looking forward to another neutritional spisode. Thanks a lot again.

All the best,

I need to say thank you for great job you (British Council) provided to us, every day I hear a little or poadcast and this is helping me so much. Noe I have a question. When the season 5 will be available? Thanks again

Hi jr_nunes,

Thank you for your nice comment! I can't tell you when Season 5 will be available but it is planned in the not-too-distant future!

Best wishes,

The LearnEnglish Team

Hello sir,
There are many things I really really want to hear from your podcasts in the fifth series.
Firstly, I'm a big fan of Harry Potter series, I know that the Harry Potter Studio is in Britain, why don't you talk about this topic because I think Harry Potter is really "a British thing".
Secondly, it's hard to understand the meanings of the names in English, isn't it? I mean if you talk about the meanings of the names in English as well as the ways people usually use to name their children, it's really a good idea for me to learn more about British culture.
Thirdly, could you explain how to use the word "though" in different ways in one of the podcast of the next series? I'm not sure how to use it in different situations.
That's all my ideas today. If I have another one, I'll send it to you!
Finally, I'd like to say thank you to you for all of your effort to make these fantastic podcasts as well as for your reading my comments.
All the best,
Rosie Phan

Hello Rosie Phan,

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. It's great to get feedback from our users!

I'll be sure to pass your comments on to the team which makes the podcasts.

Best wishes,

I've listened to the elementary podcasts since series one and I'd like to say a realy big THANK YOU to the British Council LearnEnglish team.
Your work have helped me so much, in diferents ways. Talking, learnig, reading, lenguages, all the stuf I you've taught have been useful to me until nowadays, and I belive that so many other studants have the same opinion. I've shared the podcats with a lot of friends and all they got stunned.
In the next series I'd like to participate with coments and reading other students coments.
In case it's possible I'd like to say it would be my pleasure to participate of the show, if you need or like so.
I've to say that I became a fun of Tess and Ravi, and Gordon's jokes. They were increadeble. LOL.
I'll be here looking looking for the series five.
Thank you again.

Best wishes.

Pablo Alves.

Hello Pablo,

Thanks so much for letting us know how much you've learned by listening to Elementary Podcasts! We work hard on each series, so it's really great to hear that people find them so useful.

We definitely look forward to your participation here in the comments in Series 5. It will probably be difficult for us to have guests on the show, but we'll certainly keep you and anyone else who expresses interest here in mind.

Thanks for your willingness to participate!

All the best,
The LearnEnglish Team
