Elementary Podcasts

Elementary Podcasts are suitable for learners with different levels of English. Here are some ways to make them easier (if you have a lower level of English) or more difficult (if you have a higher level of English). You can choose one or two of these suggestions - you don't have to follow all of them!

Making it easier

  • Read all the exercises before you listen to the podcast.
  • Look up the words in the exercises that you don't know in a dictionary.
  • Play the podcast as many times as you need.
  • Play each part of the podcast separately.
  • Read the transcript after you have listened to the podcast.

Making it harder

  • Listen to the podcast before you read the exercises.
  • Only play the podcast once before answering the questions.
  • Play the whole podcast without a break.
  • Don't read the transcript.

Now, listen to the podcast and do the exercises.

Hello Rosie Phan,

It's great that you want to practise your English so much! However, I'm afraid our House Rules ask users not to share their personal details. This is for data protection reasons and is a part of British Council policy.

Best wishes,

The LearnEnglish Team

Well. I haven't read the policy clearly. I'm sorry about that. I'll find another way. Thanks for letting me know that.

Hello Rosie,

No worries! You might want to check out our Facebook page -- from time to time there are links to sites that you might find useful.

I just want to ask a question !!

Is it a correct sentence : The general information was needed to be updated. !!!??

Hello HootanB,

'was' is not needed in your sentence, as 'need' is not passive here.

All the best,

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for LearnEnglish program that I can meet everyone here!
I am from Shanghai China now living in Auckland New Zealand. I think my listening skill is not too bad as I can fully understand above dialogue without read text. My problem is I don't know how to build up vocabulary quickly particularly in politics or economy, because I don't have many chance to reach these topics in the daily basic life. I don't have confidence to talk to the people as my vocabulary is so limited.
Today is my second day to LearnEnglish, I am sure I will be find more to improve my vocabulary.
This is a excellent program! It will be with me for the rest of life.

Hi there, I'm Vagner from Brazil.
I loved everything in the episode. The kind of caring the girls have with each other it's so cute.

Hello everyone!

My name is Antonio and I'm from Italy. I started to study English around four month ago in Malaysia (my sister works here) and I wanted to improve my listening skills, which is one of my problems, that's why I decided to listen your podcasts.
I'm writing just to say that I'm very happy listening your podcasts which have been very useful for me and I wish that season 5 will be released soon.

Thank you so much!
