Elementary Podcasts

Elementary Podcasts are suitable for learners with different levels of English. Here are some ways to make them easier (if you have a lower level of English) or more difficult (if you have a higher level of English). You can choose one or two of these suggestions - you don't have to follow all of them!

Making it easier

  • Read all the exercises before you listen to the podcast.
  • Look up the words in the exercises that you don't know in a dictionary.
  • Play the podcast as many times as you need.
  • Play each part of the podcast separately.
  • Read the transcript after you have listened to the podcast.

Making it harder

  • Listen to the podcast before you read the exercises.
  • Only play the podcast once before answering the questions.
  • Play the whole podcast without a break.
  • Don't read the transcript.

Now, listen to the podcast and do the exercises.

When is the season 5 coming?

Hello Gabriel5000,

I'm afraid we just don't know yet. We are working on series five, but there are still so many details to work out that I'm afraid we just don't know yet. We'll do our best to make it be sooner rather than later!

All the best,
The LearnEnglish Team

Hello everyone.I am come from China. I find the site according to my Foreign teacher.
My listening is not good, most of the time I don't know what words I hear. I want to inprove my listening, can you give me some advice?

Hello miemie,

Another user asked a very similar question yesterday. Listening is difficult for many people, it seems. I can say the same thing to you that I said to them: that listening is a challenging skill but it can be improved.

It's not really possible for me to give you individual advice because I don't know your strengths and weaknesses in this area - that would be a job for your teacher. However, I can give you some general suggestions. FIrst, remember that practice makes perfect. Don't give up even if progress seems slow! Second, use the transcript to help you. Listen and read the transcript. Don't worry about understanding every word but pay attention to how the words are connected in fast speech. After you've listened two or three times try listening without the transcript. Third, try reading aloud while listening. This will help to speed up your speaking (because you will need to try to keep up with the recording) and also help you to get used to listening to fast speech.

I hope those suggestions are helpful.

Best wishes,

The LearnEnglish Team

Tnx british council group
I am looking forward to new series.
When you release series 5?
Please give me a date?

Hello Ebi.mj,

We are working on series 5, but I'm afraid we don't know when it will be ready to release. If I knew, I would tell you, but there's still so much to do that no-one knows just yet!

We'll certainly advertise on our home page and in our newsletter once we know when it will be ready.

Thanks for your interest.

I realy like to listen to these podcasts.
In my opinion, these type of podcasts are very educational. In addition, i fall into the habit of carolina and their friends. I hope you keep the podcasts and make new season of elementray podcasts with carolina and their friends.

Thank you.

Hello lovely people from British Council. I'am brazilian, and lived in london for 10 months in 2007 to learn English and lose my panic about the language, I'm quite deaf, and it's hard to understand British pronunciation. I studied English in many short times during my life, and never felt myself confidence to speak. In a ironic way I got marriied with a gentlemen english guy who live in my city. Now I have a English family and need to improve my skills.
I loved your way to teach, setting the text in exercises that repeat and repeat pronouns, verbs and vocabulary, amazing!
You;re very generous about learn people around the world for free. Thank you!
All the best
