I am watch and listening the camden scene, It's amazing!!!

Hi Kirk,

At 1:40 Rod says "english is full of these . . . expressions" . What word is in the blank ? And though I have tried my best but I cann't catch what is said at 1:44 by Ashlie ". . . you don't have to eat fast food everyday".
Your help would be appreciated.

Hi JackQuy,

Please remember that it's not necessary to understand every word of everything you hear. We include audioscripts for the material which is intended for listening practice, but for pages like this one which focus on language explanations it is important to understand the explanations, not every word.

At 1:40 Rob says '...fixed expressions'

At 1:44 Ashlie says 'So you don't have to eat fast food every day. Take note, Stephen!'

I'm afraid it's not normally possible for us to answer these sorts of questions as we have so many users and if we tried then we would have no time left to actually run the site!

Best wishes,

Yes, both 'can' and 'may' can be used to ask permission. See our grammar page on this topic for a full explanation.
