Christmas Scene 1

Ashlie and Stephen are getting ready for Christmas. They need to buy presents and decorate the tree, but there's still time for a bit of ice-skating...

Do the Preparation task first. Then watch the video. Next go to the Tasks and do the activities. If you need help, you can read the Transcript at any time.

i was a student of English Teaching Centre of British Council, Kolkata in India. It was very good. But I could not continue because of my personal problems. Now I am a regular browser of this site. It is very very very good for me. I cant sleep at night without browsing it at least once.

Hi. How can I download video clips for free from this site? Is there any way?

Hello Pratherathi!
I'm sorry, but these videos aren't available for download at the moment. You can, however, download the exercises – just click on the download button underneath the video - and you are welcome to watch the videos as many times as you like on the site.
If you want to download things to practice your English offline, try our Elementary Podcasts or our radio sopa opera, Big City, Small World – you can download those mp3s!

The first tradition in Britain that I know is decoration of the house with garlands, place the Christmas Tree. Besides, people hang on the door a sprig of mistletoe. The second tradition is that on the Christmas Eve children hang fireplace or on the edge of the bed Christmas stocking in order to (Old Father Christmas) filled them with presents. The third tradition singing Christmas carols and and do Christmas pantos. In the days of advent a group of people gathers including children, who walk around singing Christmas carols and collect donations. The fourth tradition is that on the 25th of December most of people go to the church and then gather for a festive table. The fifth tradition is broadcasting congratulation of the Queen. After congratulation of the Queen, Englishmen play charades or other Board games. People buy presents of equal value to each other. They buy such presents for example Christmas cards. Englishmen buy presents first of all children. A Christmas Tree is decorated with Christmas-tree decorations, electric garlands and  its top is decorated with a star, or the angel.
