Good morning.
Firstly, I'm highly appreciative of what the British Council English Team did. It's extremely good for English learners in Listening skill, But I also have some problems with the others skill, specially in writing. As well as other students who don't live in a non-speaking English Country. And I hope that you could give me some advice because I'm going to take an IELTS exam in next few months.
I've studied English for a long time since I was at school. And I'm keep practicing English by my own by listening BBC English Podcasts or watching movies.... It can help me improve my listening skill and I can realise that change. But the problem is that my speaking and writing skill are not good enough to express my mind correctly, smoothly...Can you give me some advices to improve these skills?
Ah, there is an other question for you :D Dot you have any program with a lots of topics from easy level to advance level where learners's writing can be fixed correctly? hehe that's my idea because I really need a native English teacher.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks in advance :D
Best regards,
Ngoc.

Hello daphne_vn!

Thank you for your kind words! It's good to know you've had some improvement. Unfortunately, at the moment, it's a bit difficult for us to provide direct help with speaking and writing. You could try the British Council Vietnam who may be able to help with classes. We do get asked this a lot though, and if you have a look at our IELTS Tips and Skills page you'll see answers to other learners' questions about writing and speaking.

We are preparing a writing course as well, which will give lots of useful examples and advice, so look out for that!

It’s nice and informative exercise as well as web site too. I appreciate the BCE team for their efforts; they’re being made for English learns.
but i would to ask to BCE team that I'm trying to improve my English language quickly in a short time of period like within one or two month, what type of way would you recommend me to improve my English.
or what is the easiest way/skill to improve the English language in a short time of period?

Hello Umohsin,
Thanks for your kind words; we enjoy helping you learn English. I can't tell you a single way that will help everyone learn English quickly; if it existed it would be very famous! Different people need to improve different areas of English and they learn in different ways, so as I don't know you I can't give you specific advice. For example, the advice I would give someone who needs to take an exam in English wouldn't be the same as the advice I would give someone who was going to work in an English-speaking company.
However, if you want to improve as much as possible in a short time, you probably need to increase the amount of time you are spending studying English. An English course might be useful (the British Council run them in the UAE), but you also need to spend time studying on your own, listening to lots of English and also speaking as much as you can.
Best wishes,
Adam

Hello Mr. Adam JK
Thank you very much indeed to reply me regarding my query about English learning. Actually the case is this that I’m expecting my interview in one large company as an Administration Assistant or Technical Assistant soon may be within two or three months. Therefor, I would like to prepare myself for the interview for that particular post; my all credentials are meeting for this post except I feel hesitation during speaking English. Actually, I’m working in remote area and there is very much difficult for me to attend any sort of course to improve my ability in speaking English. As you have good knowledge and experience in English please do me your kind favor in this regard. Hence, if there is any possibility for me to communicate with native English speakers through yahoo, Skype, Gmail, or any other messengers from your side, I will cordially appreciate.
I am looking your forward prompt reply.
Kind regards,

Hello umohsin!

I'm sorry, but Adam's currently away! I'll try to answer your question. First off, I'm afraid we don't offer Skype-style services - sorry about that. However, here are a few suggestions for practicing English on your own.

  • Use the comments section here to practice grammar and vocabulary. It's writing, but still useful.
  • Try to record yourself. See if you can guess some of the questions the interviewers might ask, and go to a site like www.vocaroo.com. Record your answers, and playback your recording – what mistakes did you make? What do you like about your answer?
  • Keep listening to our recordings. One of the best ways to improve speaking... is listening!

Finally, remember you don't have to have a native speaker to talk to. Maybe a friend or colleague wants to talk English – ask around, and find someone who wants to practice.

Good luck in the interview!
