Ashlie, Stephen and their cousins are going to the beach, but the British summer turns nasty on them. What is there to do in Britain when the weather is bad?

Hello Nylakhan,

In my previous answer I provided a link to our pages dealing with modal verbs. 'Could' is also a modal verb, and you can find information on it using that link.

Modal verbs can be used with may meanings. For example, 'could' is used for requests, ability, possibility, deductions, suggestions and more. In your example it is used to make a suggestion.

What is the difference between won't & wouldn't?

Hello Nylakhan,

'Won't' is the negative form of 'will' and 'wouldn't' is the negative form of 'would'. These are both modal verbs which can have many meanings depending on the context in which they are used. You can learn more about modal verbs here.

Hello,

In this video, Aslie says, "We’re looking after them for the day as their parents are busy." May I know what "for the day" means? Thank you.

Hello Pocoyo,

'For the day' means 'for the whole day' (rather than for just part of it) and we use it in certain situations, particularly when we are doing something different to our normal routine.

Hello Peter,

Thank you very much for the explanation!

Hi there!

Really interesting exercise, congratulations. I wonder how someone can understand Ashlie when she says "... or we won’t be able to go" (1:00). She says it so fast!! :)

Hi I can not watch the video it have a problem for loading.
thank you.

Hi merkina,

There are a number of possible reasons.  These videos require a Flash-compatible system and browser, so if you are using a mobile device you may have problems.

We also know that users in some countries have problems accessing our videos.  To help with this, we have created some alternative links.  Try going to this page and, if the video does not work, click on the 'Can't see video? Click here!' link instead.  If this video works then the problem is one related to your location and you will have to look for pages with the 'Can't see video? Click here!' link.

I hope that helps you to solve your problem.

Best wishes,

Peter

very interesting ! new information for me about the weather in Britain . How changeable !! I guess everyone have to change his plans because of the weather. perhaps It might be annoying But I guess they get used to it and it could be not annoying to them as they predict their plans could be changed and they become flexible to accept that.
