Indoor Sports Scene 2

Ashlie and Ellie have a great time on the indoor snowboarding slope, but it turns out climbing isn't as easy as Stephen thought...

Do the Preparation task first. Then watch the video. Next go to the Tasks and do the activities. If you need help, you can read the Transcript at any time.

Task 1

Task 2

When they're deciding what to do at the sports centre, Stephen, Ash and their cousins use expressions like:

I've got a good idea.     Why don't ... ?
What do you think?     Sounds great!

Task 3

Language level

Intermediate: B1
Upper intermediate: B2

We’re going to fix the rope to the end of the harness.
Is it possible to use the preposition AT (so: at the end of the harness)? Thank you very much for your precious assistance

Yes, that would have a similar meaning. However, it's more common to use 'to' with 'fix', so I suggest you use that instead.

Best wishes,

Could you give me some examples on how to use 'How about if...?' and 'What about...?', which are mentioned in the task 2, please?

Hello AdityaAgarwal,

We use them as follows:

How about if + present simple

This is generally used when suggesting possible solutions to a problem.

How about if I talk to him for you?

How about if we do it together? Will that be better?

What about + gerund

This is generally used when suggesting different options, such as proposing activities or decisions.

What about going to the cinema?

What about working together on this?

I hope that helps to clarify it for you.

Best wishes,

The LearnEnglish Team

That's the best explanation I could have expected. Thanks, indeed!

thanx to all.

this seems much useful.
could u pls guide me to download the video and worksheet.

i like it...

This video is so funny and I love it. But I'm wondering at 1:02, can Joe ask Stephen without ending by "ON" in the question "Don't we need to get the climbing gear on" ?
Looking forward to your answer. Thanks so much.
