IELTS interview is different from a job interview. Be sure to showcase your English ability, not your job qualification.

Are job interviews the same as IELTS interviews? The answer is, in some ways they are and in others they are not.

How are they the same?

In a job interview and an IELTS interview you are asked questions and based on your answers you are judged by another person. In both you are trying to create a good impression.

How are they different?

In a job interview you are trying to showcase your experience, your qualifications and your skills and expertise that are relevant for the job you are applying for. In contrast, in an IELTS interview you are only showcasing your level of spoken English and it is this that the examiner will judge you on.

In an IELTS interview you do not need to sell yourself in terms of your job qualifications or experience, you simply need to demonstrate to the examiner your competence in English. Unfortunately in our video clip, Joao does not understand this and concentrates on selling himself more than selling his English ability.

Hello . I am Deema  , and I am ENGLISH LITERATURE  student . My problem is my language does not improve as much as i want i try to read and listen to native speakers but all of these things couldn't HELP ME . WHAT i can do to improve my ENGLISH LANGUAGE . PLEASE HELP ME .

Hello, Deema!

You're not alone! After my students have studied for a while, they also feel improvement gets slower. Actually, you are still improving, but it is not as noticeable as for a beginner – this is normal, and you shouldn't feel bad about it.

The most important thing is to keep working on your English. Make sure you do some every day, and try to do a mix of different things – try some of our short stories and watch one of our videos, like the Britain is Great series. Then get involved in the discussions in the comments section. Give your opinions, and answer other people's questions.

You might also think about taking an English exam. If you are a student, look at the IELTS exam. This will give you something to aim for to keep you motivated, as well as a measure for how well you are doing.

Keep working, and good luck!

Hello yasir2000!

Welcome to the site, and it's great you want to talk to other users. However, please note that our house rules ask you not to share or ask for personal information – and this includes Skype ids, facebook, and e-mail. This is to protect you and other users. And remember – all the parts of the IELTS exam are equally important ;)

Good luck in your studies, and don't forget to check out our IELTS section (http://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/en/ielts-practice/ielts-study-tip...) for more advice.

Hi there, mounir!

It's great that you want to work with other learners, but  please remember that our house rules ask you not to share or ask for personal information – and this includes e-mail and Skype details. This is to protect all our users!

However, we're looking at ways to make it easier for learners to talk to each other – and don't forget you can talk about  problems in the comments section of each page.

Have fun, and enjoy the rest of the site!
