I usually use text messages for my friends or family, but because my parents don't check their phones in the morning I often leave notes on their drawers.

It depends on the lenght of the message. If we are talking of a brief notice, I send  a text message, but, in other cases, I prefer to send an e-mail or to use whatsapp with a link.

I normally leave messages by both writing a note and sending a photo message along with it.
