Many studies about language learning ask the question: What makes a good language learner? There are some things that good language learners do and some things they don't do. Here are some of the most useful suggestions from studies.

  • Don't be afraid of making mistakes. People often get things wrong. Good language learners notice their mistakes and learn from them.
  • Do group activities. People use language to communicate with other people. A good language learner always looks for opportunities to talk with other students.
  • Make notes during every class. Notes help you to remember new language. Look at your notes when you do your homework.
  • Use a dictionary. Good language learners often use dictionaries to check the meaning of words they don't know. They also make their own vocabulary lists.
  • Think in the language you're learning outside the classroom. When you're shopping or walking down the street, remember useful words and phrases. Sometimes, when you're at home, say new words to practise your pronunciation.
  • Do extra practice. Test and improve your language, reading and listening skills with self-study material. You can find a lot of this online.
  • Imagine yourself speaking in the language. Many good language learners can see and hear themselves speaking in the language. This helps their motivation.
  • Enjoy the process. Good language learners have fun with the language. Watch a TV series or film, listen to songs, play video games or read a book. It's never too late to become a good language learner.

In my opinion, learning it's not only hard work, but it's something what we can do during relax. When I'm tired, I watch interesting videos on Youtube or sitcoms on Netflix. When the level is hard for me, I use subtitles. Studying with pleasure it's the best solution.

Be consistent; even if you get bored while studying, change the subject and find what interests you.

I have some tips and one of them it's watch movies and TV shows like Friends and write down new words, phrases or phrasal verbs, try to understand without subtitles to improve my listening skills. It's easy because it's fun and doesn't feel like a lesson, and you will learn a lot. Also to remember new word I write little stories of my own with them. With that way I better remember new words.

I completely surrounded myself by English. I watch movies, series and YouTube videos, listen British and US songs, especially UK drill. I even changed language on my phone and laptop from my native. During my learning English I always write unfamiliar words in my vocabulary lists with transcription and translation. Also I'm trying to thinking in English, for example I can plan my day on my mind in English.

I think you should have the close contact with language. First of all, you should listen a lot. You could even re-listen some familiar records twicw or more it can improve listening and understanding aurally. You could change interfaces of all programms and applications to language you're leaning and you should read the books, I hope it helps to top up your vocabullary. I think it's not needed to learn grammar at the start of your journey, it's too tiresome and even native speakers make grammar mistakes it's not so horrible

Read lots of books written in English. Do extensive reading. Currently, I'm reading "Never Let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro", which I borrowed it from British Council Library (Yangon, Burma).
