Definitely I choose whatsapp to be in contact with my friends and family. Today we have many options for create digital invitations, and not only simple texts. Moreover, the works activities and family routines make tough to have time for keep in constantly communications with all. Therefor, its more practice short and regular messages.

Well, I would prefer using formal form for important things, like E-Mails or Letters.

Considering it's an old friend, a live form of communications like social messenger might not appropriate. It's more suitable for casual things, not to announce things, moreover, as someone who didn't meet him/her for long time.

Imagine if like this reading sections. You're going to be married, then you send a WhatsApp message to your elementary school buddy, "hey I'm going to get marry!" no invitation, no letters. That's will look like a joke or pranks rather than a real important news.

I would directly call my best friend for important news. And may a video call is better.

Will be fun if that old friends already forgot who we are, or moreover, mistaken us for credit card / assurance sales rather than old friends :P, happen to me at once.

I would use a social media app to tell my old friends important news. It's the easiest way to be in contact with friends and others.

I would definitely use Whatsapp to communicate with my family and friends.
Even though It is not the same as being with everyone.
I prefer Whatsapp because it's easy, and has very good quality.

In general, I would think about using Social Media for example Messenger. First of all it is the rapidest way to contact with someone especially if the person is your close friend. Secondly messenger is installed on our mobile phones that's why is easily accessible. In addition I add that If I had lived in XIX century I would have used an old fashion hand-write letter and sent it using an carrier-pigeon.
