I like to eat croissants for breakfast with a cup of coffee and milk. A fruit salad is an excellent meal also with a lot of vitamins. I like soups and sandwiches a lot, and sometimes we order pizza.

Are those British food?? They seem to be a jumble of food from around the world. (´σ `)?

Hello Rafaela1,

That depends on how you define 'British'! In any case, note that the title of this page is 'Food in Britain', which includes foods that people commonly eat in the UK, wherever the recipes may be from.

All the best,

I like pizza, omelette, fruit salad, meat and cheese sandwiches. I rarely eat takeaway food because if I don't feel like cooking most of the time I eat out. I prefer sitting in a restaurant with my husband or a friend. Usually, if I stay at home, either I cook or when I'm tired I just prepare something fast like a soup or a salad.

Dear Sir, Please explain to me this sentence: Curry is meat or vegetables cooked in a spicy sauce. It is often comes with rice. => What's the subject of the verb "come" ? Why we use "to be" here? Could I say: It often comes with rice? Thank you very much for your explanation, Ngoc

Hi Tran It often comes with rice. BTW, what about "It often goes with rice". What's the difference between Come and Go in this situation? Nan, where did you come from? -I come from India. Oh, come with me at an Indian curry restaurant. Rice, where did you come from? -I come from Southern China. Well, maybe you can go with Thai curry. Curry powder, where are you from? -I was born in the U.K. I get along with Rice and Nan. ^_^)y

Hi Rafaela1,

When we talk about food, we say goes with to mean that two things are a good match together. For example, we might say curry goes with rice to mean that these things taste good together.

We say comes with to mean that when you order one thing in a restaurant, you automatically get the other thing. For example, a waiter might say that the steak comes with a salad and either chips or jacket potatoes.

Thanks a bunch, Peter! Your feedback is No1 ! I asked a good question, if I do say so myself. (^з^)-☆

Hello Tran Ngoc

You're right! That was a mistake, which is now corrected.

Thanks very much for pointing this out to us and I'm sorry for the confusion.

I really like to eat all this foods. I often cooked rice with vegetables and/or meat like chicken and sometimes I use spice with it. I like to eat soup at home, but I don't often make it by my own, I usually buy it already cooked, I just have to warm up it. Sometimes I eat takeaway foods from restaurants cooking such as Chinese/Vietnamese/Japanese food, Pizza or Sandwich food, depend of what I'd like to eat. And I sometimes also eat croissant, but I buy it, I don't cook this food by my own, same for bread. I don't often eat fruit salad but I like to eat fruits, I just don't take time to cook those together.

I like to eat omelette and soup.... hold on! Is it correct to say "eat soup"? Can anyone help me? What am I supposed to say?? ( ・᷄ꃪ・᷅)˞ᵋᵌ
Hello Rafaela1 I say 'eat soup', and in my experience most other people also say 'eat' with 'soup'. I suppose if the soup were in a mug, I might say 'drink', but probably I'd just use the delexical verb 'have' (see https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/english-grammar/delexical-verbs-have-take-make-give-go-and-do) to avoid saying that since it sounds a little strange! I like fruit too much as a salad, juice, porridge, smoothy or raw or cooked. The other my favorite one, they are soup, rice, white meat and some kind of sandwich. But I am not a fan of junk food such as pizza, however, its taste is nice. In the whole of my life, I had no dare to try sushi, I can not imagine how taste is the raw fish.

Why i can't see any words ? my vocabulary page is empty.

Hello Matata,

It's hard for me to be sure, but it sounds like a technical issue. The page appears to be working correctly, so I would suggest you try accessing it on a different device. Some devices, especially mobile devices, do not show some kinds of content, expecially interactive content using Flash. If you are using a mobile device, try accessing the page on a laptop or desktop computer to see if this helps.
